This photography project delves into the island of Sumba, Indonesia, revealing its rich tapestry of
religious practices, ancient rituals, and sacrificial ceremonies. Key moments include the Pasola festival, a thrilling spear-fighting event symbolising the harmony between humans and nature, and various aspects of tribal life that showcase the community's deep- rooted customs and social structures.

BUKA in Javanese means “welcome” or “opening”. Other translations relate to music, family, beauty and uniqueness.
